Hungary has a long tradition in filmmaking. Iconic figures of the industry like Adolph Zukor, Sir Alexander Korda, Michael Curtiz and Joseph Pasternak had Hungarian origin as well as famous Hollywood actors: Leslie Howard, Tony Curtis and Zsazsa Gábor. In the past 20 years directors Bela Tarr and Istvan Szabo; or cinematographers Laszlo Kovacs and Vilmos Zsigmond made headlines with their exceptional work.

Hungary serves as an excellent location for filmmaking. The capital Budapest has versatile locations serving all needs from historical to modern buildings. Hungarian film crews work in a 6 day/week schedule and 12 hours/day (including 1 hot meal). Equipment rental houses are professional and gears are easily accessible. Two major studios operating - one of them with 3700 sqm sound stage (Studio Korda and Raleigh Studio), and an open air backlot with excellent medieval sets are available as well as smaller studio facilities.

Financial benefits are the 20% tax incentive recovery; following the Act of 2004 on Motion Picture, domestic and foreign film productions could gain 20% of their production expenses spent in the country. In 2008 the law has extended the incentive to some production expenses incurred outside of Hungary. Foreign productions receive the discount through a partnership with a local production company (Café Film). Further benefits are the Central European production fees, wages and discounts.

Café Film provides scouts, location and equipment rental, finding your crew, executing filming and upon request part of your post production. Our experienced team and their international level of working enable you to realize your project and meet your creative and financial expectations.
